I love how you’ve spun genealogy with the recipe finds. So excellent. Where did you originally find the recipe book?

Thanks, Helene, I originally received it from my friend, Ginger. She knows I like the vintage and antique cookbooks and she spotted a good one!

Fascinating! Would you be so kind as to offer the cookbook title? Thank you!

Hi Kathleen, this was a handwritten receipt book from 1850, so it's not a published book and has no title. Sorry. 🫤

Great read, love the result. Wondering if frozen fruit would work…I’m thinking yes.

Thanks Alex!

Definitely, yes, on the frozen fruit. So much easier to get this time of year, too.

I can’t wait to try this cordial over the holidays! What a delightful tale and I’m now inspired to write things down over the holidays!

Maybe on Saturday you can give it a try. I still have a little left and plenty of club soda lying around, too.

It definitely does…the timing of that kitchen disaster right before pick up was so relatable! We had just had our own version of one over the weekend when we were heading out to a holiday party. Loose cap on a cocktail shaker…espresso martini everywhere! I really enjoy your writing!

Oh no! Did you remake it or just go run out the door without it?

Sadly, we went without

Would have done the same!

OMG Thanks for this lovely recipe rabbit-hole of old spirits...

RE: Recipe survival rates: We might note that every single person who ever sampled Mrs. Dubois' cooking is now deceased... 🤔💀

RIGHT? I am the sole survivor. I promise you I fed it to many people and they all sipped loudly and without complaint.

I knew you would appreciate the historical deep dive!

I await the final results of your current round of testing... To be objective we should collect data in another 170 years or so.

Good point. I'll put the recipe away in my journal and lock box it before I go.

PS. Sarah is holding an autoharp... 🎵

(Holding a harpsichord in her lap would make for a very awkward portrait!)

Oh boy. Interestingly, I wasn't even worried about getting that part wrong. Just said it confidently and convinced myself. Blind spot.
